BURIED SECRETS — A Special Japanese Horror Collaboration

A secret buried in darkness

slowly awakens to the haunting sound of the biwa.

For the first time at MOMOKAWAROH, Kyoto-based classical ghost storyteller Katari-be Masano joins Takahisa Suda, a Tsuruta-school Satsuma biwa performer known as “a modern-day minstrel travelling through time and space.”

Together, they present an exclusive collaborative ghost story created especially for MOMOKAWAROH:

BURIED SECRETS

Guided by Masano’s mesmerizing narration and the deep, otherworldly resonance of the Satsuma biwa, the performance opens a forbidden door to memories that should never have been disturbed.

As the story unfolds, the boundary between the world of the living and the realm of spirits gradually begins to disappear.

The evening will also feature Masano’s solo performance of the classic Japanese ghost story “The Ghost Waterfall,” reimagined through original music by DJ Machaboy and immersive visual direction by Futatsudomoe.

Takahisa Suda will perform the legendary tale “Hoichi the Earless,” accompanied by Satsuma biwa and atmospheric visuals by Futatsudomoe, bringing to life a spectral world haunted by the fallen warriors of the Heike clan.

Japanese Ghost Story Night — 葬られた秘密

闇の中に葬られた秘密が、

琵琶の音とともに、静かに目を覚ます——。

京の古典怪談師 かたりべ満茶乃氏（Masano）と、

「時空を旅する現代の吟遊詩人」として活動する、鶴田流薩摩琵琶奏者 須田隆久氏。

二人の表現者が初めてMOMOKAWAROHの舞台で交わり、ここでしか体験できないスペシャルコラボレーション怪談

「葬られた秘密」をお届けします。

語りと薩摩琵琶が導くのは、忘れ去られた記憶と、決して開けてはならない過去の扉。

物語が進むにつれ、現実と異界の境界は少しずつ曖昧になっていきます。

さらに、かたりべ満茶乃による古典怪談 「幽霊滝」を、DJ Machaboyの楽曲とFutatsudomoeの映像演出によって再構築。

須田隆久は、薩摩琵琶の響きとともに名作怪談 【耳切れ芳一】を披露。

こちらもFutatsudomoeの映像が重なり、平家の怨霊が彷徨う夜の世界を、幻想的かつ鮮烈に描き出します。

古典怪談 × 薩摩琵琶 × DJミュージック × 映像テクノロジー。

かたりべ満茶乃｜Masano

京都を拠点に、全国各地の民話や古典怪談を蒐集し、独自の解釈で語り継ぐ古典専門怪談師。能楽を基盤とした発声と、「憑依型」とも評される迫真の語りによって、物語の登場人物や異界の気配を鮮やかに立ち上げる。『平家物語』『源氏物語』をはじめ、レパートリーは200演目以上。台本制作から演出まで手掛け、さまざまな伝統芸能や現代の表現者とのコラボレーションにも取り組んでいる。

Masano｜Classical Japanese Ghost Storyteller

Based in Kyoto, Masano is a storyteller specializing in Japanese folklore and classical ghost stories. Drawing on Noh theatre vocal techniques, her intensely immersive style—often described as “possession-like”—brings forgotten characters, emotions and supernatural worlds vividly to life. Her repertoire includes more than 200 stories inspired by classical works such as The Tale of the Heike and The Tale of Genji. She also writes and directs her own performances and collaborates with artists from both traditional and contemporary disciplines.

須田隆久｜Takahisa Suda

「時空を旅する現代の吟遊詩人」として活動する、絃月流創始・琵琶奏者・フラメンコ歌手。鶴田流薩摩琵琶を岩佐鶴丈氏に師事し、フラメンコの歌声、琵琶歌、能楽の謡を融合した独自の表現世界を築く。薩摩琵琶、楽琵琶、螺鈿紫檀五絃琵琶などを奏で、時代・文化・宗教・国境を越えた物語を、声と絃の響きによって紡いでいる。国内外の舞台で、日本の伝統と異文化が交差する新たな音楽表現を発信している。

Takahisa Suda｜Biwa Player and Contemporary Troubadour

Founder of the Gengetsu style, Takahisa Suda describes himself as “a modern-day troubadour travelling through time and space.” Originally trained as a professional flamenco singer and guitarist, he later studied Tsuruta-school Satsuma biwa under Kakujō Iwasa. Combining flamenco vocals, traditional biwa chanting and the vocal techniques of Noh theatre, he creates a distinctive musical world that transcends time, culture and national borders. He performs on several forms of biwa, including the Satsuma biwa, gaku-biwa and a replica of the five-stringed mother-of-pearl biwa preserved in the Shōsōin.

DJ MATCHA BOY

ハウスを軸に、ディープハウス、ローファイ、フレンチハウス、ダブ、テクノなど、幅広いジャンルを横断しながら、空間のムードとグルーヴを緻密にデザインするDJ／コンポーザー。ソウルフルなリミックスと、都会的でシネマティックなサウンドを通して、フロアとラウンジの境界を溶かす独自の音世界を生み出している。MOMOKAWAROH「MATCHA SET」のレジデントDJとして、日本の伝統芸能と現代音楽が交差する新たな舞台表現にも取り組む。今回の「幽霊滝」では、怪談の静寂、不穏さ、異界の気配を電子音楽によって立ち上げ、かたりべ満茶乃の語りとFutatsudomoeの映像を結びつける。

DJ and composer MATCHA BOY moves fluidly across house, deep house, lo-fi house, French house, dub and techno, carefully shaping mood, rhythm and atmosphere. Through soulful remixes and urban, cinematic original sounds, he creates a distinctive musical world that blurs the boundary between the dance floor and the lounge. As the resident DJ of MOMOKAWAROH’s MATCHA SET, he explores new forms of live performance where Japanese traditional arts meet contemporary electronic music. For The Ghost Waterfall, his sound evokes silence, unease and the presence of the supernatural, connecting Masano’s storytelling with the immersive visuals of Futatsudomoe.

DJ YANO

普段は美術館のインハウス・キュレーターをしながら、DJとしての顔も持つ。モノを選び、並べ、その連なりから一つの空間をつくりあげる——展覧会づくりで培った感覚は、そのまま選曲にも通じている。ジャンルにはこだわらず、JAZZ、SOUL、POPSといった音楽全般を軸に、ときには現代音楽や実験音楽までを自在に行き来しながら、その場に流れる空気を丁寧に紡いでいく。

By day, an in-house curator at an art museum, with a second life as a DJ. Choosing objects, arranging them, and building a single space out of how they connect — the sensibility he has honed making exhibitions carries straight over into his selections. Unbound by genre, he works from music of all kinds — jazz, soul, pop — and moves freely, at times, into contemporary and experimental territory, carefully weaving the atmosphere of the room as he goes.

DJ sanae

Jazz、Soul、Funk、Rare Grooveを軸に、ジャンルや年代を横断しながら、その場の空気や時間帯に寄り添った選曲を得意とする。アナログレコードをこよなく愛しながらも、フォーマットにとらわれることなく、その場に最適な音楽とグルーヴを届けることを大切にしている。これまで青山fai、恵比寿Bar Jam、渋谷Organ Barをはじめ、都内のクラブ、バー、各種イベントでプレイ。ダンスフロアからラウンジまで、音楽が人や会話を自然につなぐ心地よい空間づくりを信条としている。

Anchored in jazz, soul, funk, and rare groove, she moves across genres and eras, with a gift for selections that fit the mood of the room and the time of night. A devoted lover of analog records, she nonetheless refuses to be bound by format, prioritizing the music and groove that best suit the moment. She has played at venues such as Aoyama fai, Ebisu Bar Jam, and Shibuya Organ Bar, along with clubs, bars, and all kinds of events across Tokyo. From the dance floor to the lounge, her credo is creating a comfortable space where music naturally connects people and conversation.

日本の伝統文化と最新のデジタルテクノロジーを結び、新たな舞台体験を創造する生田貢樹・梯 京子によるクリエイティブチーム。生成AI、映像、モーショングラフィックス、プロジェクションマッピングなどを用い、物語や音楽、演者の身体表現に寄り添う空間演出を手掛けている。

MOMOKAWAROHでは、能舞台を背景に、怪談、能楽、邦楽、舞踊、DJなど、それぞれの演目が持つ世界観を映像によって拡張。日本の古典や伝承を現代的な感性で再構築し、伝統とテクノロジーが交差する没入型の夜を演出している。

Futatsudomoe is a creative team formed by Koji Ikuta and Kyoko Kakehashi, creating new theatrical experiences by connecting Japanese traditional culture with cutting-edge digital technology. Using generative AI, visual media, motion graphics and projection mapping, the team creates immersive environments that respond closely to the narrative, music and physical expression of the performers.

At MOMOKAWAROH, Futatsudomoe expands the worlds of Japanese ghost stories, Noh, traditional music, dance and DJ performances through atmospheric visual direction. By reimagining classical stories and cultural traditions through a contemporary lens, the team creates immersive nights where heritage and technology intersect.
